Shutdown Mythbusting
Let's break down the myths of the Shutdown, and bust them.
Okay there’s a lot of myths of what could happen during a shut down. September 30th, 2025 is the end of the Fiscal year, as October 1 is the beginning of the 2026 Fiscal Year. Remember the Fiscal Year is not the same as the chronological calendar year. I get there’s a lot of anxiety but I want to briefly bust the myths that will-are going around the Shutdown.
First thing’s first, Social Security and Veterans Benefits will be paid out on the appointed times. In fact Social Security is considered mandatory. Unlike other stuff, it’s separated from other appropriations as it’s a trust. However, some admin stuff will be delayed. Also keep in mind SNAP Benefits would go out the next month…however, as we’ve seen at the beginning of the year, states will put in an additional 30-day back stop.
The next myth is that those who were furloughed will be fired forever. That actually can’t happen with the size of our civil corp in the government. Non essential services will be paused, but those workers will be given back pay. Remember, we went through this in 2019 when Trump threw a fit. After 33 days he relented and signed the 2019 budget right there. At that time, the Democrats had retaken the House so that had made things easier.
I know this is hyper short, however, these myths need to be busted. I realize that people are on edge. Instead of being on edge, use the 5 calls app, and make sure you make your voice heard. After all, with Jimmy Kimmel, we made our voices heard, and are continuing to do so against Nexstar and Sinclair. Also keep in mind that Action is the antidote against fear and anxiousness. Do I personally think the Government will shut down…probably not, because the GOP ultimately will cave and send over a CR and not want to get blamed.
Remember, just breathe, and actually get active. If you’re on Social Security, you’re going to get your checks deposited at the beginning of the month. If you get veteran’s benefits you’re going to continue to receive them. So let’s actually get the truth out about the shut down (the last of which happened in 2019) and go from there.

I heard some reporter give the "But what about the service workers in DC?" angle today. Yeah, it sucks for them to lose a few weeks wages. But their needs are miniscule compared to the larger good of the Vichy MAGA politicians facing voter backlash and Sleepy Donald TACO losing some approval points.
Part of me feels a lot of it is a bluff since shutting down the government means the military doesn't gets paid which of course would probably make a fascist military takeover through martial law difficult
