The Nomination of Zohran Mamdani is only just step one.
Yes, I'm going to pour a bucked of cold water over those saying this is a revolution.
On June 24th, 2025, there were a lot of primaries for the NYC Local races. However, for the mayors, the Democrats have decided to do Ranked Choice Voting (RCV). The first such election was when Eric Adams (Independent) won as a Democrat in 2021, and was inaugurated in 2022. However, Adams since has been declared toxic by the people of NYC, and also the Democrats. This year, however it was a crowded field as Adams was forced out of the Democratic Party since, the people of NYC didn’t appreciate him getting a quid pro quo from Trump. Also Andrew Cuomo decided to jump in.
If you remember Cuomo has two big black marks against him. However, the accusations of sexual harassment/misconduct sank his career as a governor. However while he wasn’t formally charged with the crimes accused, the tag of sex pest has been affixed to him. There were a good amount of people who ranked him. Had he stayed out of the race it would have been between Mamdani and Brad Lander who did the smart thing and cross promoted each other. In fact this would have been the time where the RCV would have taken literal day.
That brings us to June 24th, 2025, where the primary happened. Zohran did win the RCV primary, however, I will pour iced cold water over the hard-left calling this a revolution, and such. First, he only won the primary for the mayor of NYC. Secondly, it’s a fatal mistake to nationalize a local, or state race. Yes NYC is an influential city, but this ultimately is a local race. Also there’s one more part y’all gotta understand…this just was only round 1. Round 2 will be coming up on November 4, 2025 immediately. It will be a three way race between Mamdani, Adams and Silwa. Mamdani in short must win this race for anything to be official, and that campaigning is starting now.
Also being absolutist isn’t going to help matters. To be honest, what works in NYC, or Los Angeles, or San Francisco won’t work in a rural town where there literally are blue dots in a sea of MAGA red. How exactly will you on the hard left reach those votes without pissing everybody off? That is…y’all wanted this so you gotta roll up your sleeves and figure out how to get to work from here.
Now while this is a victory for common sense, let’s not delude ourselves into thinking this is a total victory. In fact the primaries were only step one. Step 2 now is campaigning and building up a base not only for this, but other local/state elections. Also let’s take this momentum to 2026 and beyond. Because, this is going to be the hardest work possible, and it’s way too easy for some of y’all to sit on the sidelines and demand people work to your whims. That’s not how it works.
Anyhow, as it stands, Cuomo has decided to stay in the race as an Independent. However, that may not work out the way he thinks it is. it will end up splitting the votes between himself and Adams whom also is running as an independent. Zohran on the other hand, he’s not ignorant of what’s going on, and he’s continuing to reach out to every part of the NYC Democratic base.
I will admit however, his win is not shocking. In fact it was expected. This also put Democrats on notice that if they wish to have their jobs they have to constantly deliver, but not be as the GOP. However, I don’t think this is party purity, I think this is actually younger people saying enough and have decided they’re going to Run.
Zohran also faces one more thing…he has to get results in NYC in a timely manner should he win. He has experience as an NYS Assembly member and knows how things should work. That is, he’s ran for and won New York State Assembly District 36 in 2019, and won in 2020…and he ran without opposit8ion in 2022, and 2024. Also his tactic actually matches what Ken Martin, the Current DNC chair is telling elected to do…go to where the people are.
As I’ve said, him winning the primary is step 1. Step 2 is him winning the general and fighting out for each vote. I will do an article about this a little later on. However, his support has not waned. In fact he has picked up votes from unexpected places by just only sticking to NYC issues.
Remember y’all, when things do seem down, action is the antidote for fear and anxiety. Truth and education are the antidotes for lies and ignorance. Zohran understands this, and he’s making sure that he’s going to go to every Democrat in the NYC area. Also I’m going to say something that’s quite stunning to most. His stance on Israel and Palestine would only be relevant if he was running for US House, or US Senate. Otherwise, this is a local race.
You should pay Close Attention to Texas Democrats as well.
So why are some people saying that this guy is bad?
