A shame really. I really enjoyed your posts on BlueSky for the perspective they gave me and how they helped keep my sanity.
On the CR I think what's is getting lost in all the rage is that Senate Dems had no good options here. Either bite the bullet and look weak or risk a prolonged shutdown which would be hugely devastating for millions of people on top of giving Trump and Elon even more power to burn things down. What Schumer was attempting to do was go with what he considered the least worst option but the problem is he did an absolutely abysmal job of communicating on it.
As for me I will try to lay off the politics for the weekend. I can only imagine how much worse BlueSky would be if it had an algorithm like Twitter
I know, but I do have to practice what I preach and actually make sure I take care of myself. Last night on Chris Hays she straight up knew his fate was sealed, because people are calling for his head in 2028, and others who are up there too.
Bill Palmer made the same argument you did on Palmer Report on the CR vote. But even if Schumer had a stellar message, does anyone really think it would have been heard?
At least this way, the bastards are denied leverage to get more power.
Bill Palmer pointed out the same. He also mentioned how that would have come at the best possible time for the opposition. They're already getting blamed for economic chaos and a shutdown would have made that blame come to the Dems.
Really, though, government shutdowns have NEVER worked as an effective tactic, going back to its original architect Newt Gingrich. It's just a great way to set the ones making it happen on fire for no gain.
Also there is the argument that Elon was hoping for a shutdown so he could use it as an excuse to cherry pick what is and is not essential government services to reopen allowing him to go even crazier on mass RIFs
I appreciate you. I follow you on Spoutible and now here. Thanks for sharing and I am so glad you put yourself and your mental health first. It is so important because without taking the time needed, we can’t move forward effectively. I am in this fight. We need to take our country back and move it forward for ALL. It is disgusting how people are being treated.
Stay strong, Robert. You did the right thing and we can all learn from this. Times are very tough but we all have to take care of ourselves and keep living our best lives in spite of these difficult days.
And somehow I'm not shocked. The dirty secret is that leftists, for all their posturing, tend to get as feral as MAGA when they feel "disrespected" or whatever. Deep down, they think MAGA has the right idea, just the wrong people in charge.

Also should point out the media was already lining up to blame Dems for a shutdown

Actually that makes sense. Now I can see why Schumer didn't want to take this tack. He saw what happened to Gingrich.

No way you can convince me that's something Leon wouldn't have done. Really, both options were shitty. Hard to tell which one was less so.
You’re talking about the 1994 midterms, right?
Though it cost the dems seats, the public were firmly against the GOP. Though 2002 the dems could have taken over, but 9/11 happened.

Thank you I appreciate you too. Yeah social media is addicting, and that kind of fuckery I don't wanna deal with.
I definitely have to take breaks!
It was the right move, Rob, and good for you having the strength to take that step. May you keep writing here if nowhere else!
Thank you, it is. Also I do appreciate you standing up for the right thing even when we don't even know what the right thing is sometimes.
Something I've had to learn...if I don't make that stand, no guarantee anyone else will. So I do what I can to step up.

Totally understand. I got my first “death threat” on Bluesky recently. From a progressive in Vermont. 🤷🏻♀️
I hope you reported that...because nobody should have to go through that.

You're not wrong, and it's very dang scary.
