As I have pointed out on BlueSky

1. 2000 National Guardsmen is not even 1% of the population of Los Angles.

2. By the time they were activated the protesters had already gone home so they basically wasted time and resources for essentially nothing.

Everything Donald and Miller are doing right now is to essentially make themselves look tough after the people of LA made an absolute mockery of their ICE goon squads

Yes, and here's the thing...it wasn't a whole crowd of people. It was some 400 people...though I will admit that there were trouble makers there probably planted.

There’s always troublemakers in LA. We have worse riots when the Lakers win. There is nothing going on here that local law enforcement can’t handle with their eyes closed.

Yes, well said. +rump is very effective at getting everyone’s undies in a wad. It pays to step back and take a breath and not pile panic on panic.

But, +rump is good at doing things everyone says he can’t do, without repercussion, and he’s got some really icky people pulling strings. Launching planes full of illegally abducted people towards a foreign gulag with no due process would seem ridiculous under normal times. Creating a pseudo-agency headed by a billionaire to gut federal agencies without congressional oversight seems like a badly written political procedural. But it happened.

So I hope we don’t look back in a week and say “I thought he didn’t have authority to do that. I thought congress would stop him. How come the courts aren’t responding?”

With +rump, you never quite know. what’s real and what’s not until the smoke (or tear gas) clears.

That's why I preach for journalistic integrity, media literacy, and logic. However, the Courts have held firm and it got to the point where they were about to hold people in contempt. Also Pam Bondi is in trouble in Florida and even the good ol' boys down there would have a problem with what's going on.

Oh and Albergo Garcia actually just came home.

Yes, though his hell isn't done yet. Attorneys at law are lining up to help him out from the BS charges filed ex post facto after he was sent to El Salvador illegally.

Hopefully. And I do appreciate your writing. We want to find the balance of being appropriately outraged and motivated to push for change, without going nuclear and being as crazy as maga.

Thank you Robert. As much as I am concerned with what's happening in LA I don't believe it will lead to martial law for the reasons that you point out and even if it was from what I've read and heard from legal experts the constitution would still apply. There's no mechanism whatsoever to suspend it and I wish people would or could understand that.

You're welcome, and those protests were already done and dusted...and the National Guard is wasted resources. That is, people realize that hard-right media wants propaganda, and people aren't giving it to him. Also from what I found there was only 400 people at the protests.

400? That's all? Ohh for Pete's sake

Yes even the telecopters from the local stations couldn't find anything. Though the embedded trouble makers will get arrested as Karen Bass warned straight off.

I agree with the state charges if a National Guard member was to shoot someone, like in Kent State. But it’s also important to remember that all the charges were dropped. So, that really isn’t the fail safe that one might think at first glance.

But I completely agree with the fear mongering. It’s unethical and completely out of control. It’s one thing to be like hey this is bad, but explain factually what is happening. It’s another to act like we’re all going to be in camps every time the regime breathes, with no basis in the actual source documents.
